2025 Standards for RTOs commence

1 June 2025

The 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations (the Standards) are now in full effect.

The implementation of the 2025 Standards is an important milestone for the sector and follows an extensive four-year program of consultation and collaboration with Commonwealth, state and territory departments and regulators, sector peak bodies, VET stakeholders, and providers.

The 2025 Standards focus on the quality of outcomes for students and employers. They allow providers more flexibility, and support innovation in training delivery.

In preparation for this transition, ASQA delivered an education and engagement program to the sector, and we’ve produced a range of guidance, including the 2025 Standards Practice Guides, FAQs, a series of podcasts and a sector-wide webinar. ASQA also undertook more than 20 information sessions with providers across May and June.  Through survey returns, participants indicated high levels of motivation (scoring 4.6 out of 5) to support the change to the 2025 Standards and an outcomes-based approach. Participants also reported a preparedness rating of 4.0 out of 5 on adopting the 2025 Standards.

We will continue to support the capability of the sector, enabling providers to deliver quality training under the 2025 Standards by undertaking ongoing engagement, providing further resources and materials, and listening to providers to identify and address gaps in their understanding.

The 2025 Standards also provide an opportunity for ASQA to mature both our regulatory and assessment approaches.

There will be more regulatory engagement, and our processes and approach have shifted in line with the outcomes focused nature of the 2025 Standards, giving providers more flexibility in how they demonstrate that they are meeting the Standards.

We will continue to provide clarity on our revised assessment methodology (as was discussed in the webinar and workshop series) and are set to release our Regulatory Assessment Approach publicly in the coming weeks.
