Real Skills Deserve Real Recognition

The Minister for Skills and Training, Andrew Giles, and CEO of the Australian Skills Qualification Authority, Saxon Rice, have launched a social media promotion to protect students from exploitation and reduce the demand for fraudulent or poor-quality qualifications.

The initiative, called Real Skills Deserve Real Recognition, will raise awareness of the risks associated with non-genuine VET providers issuing fraudulent qualifications, highlight the red flags students should look out for, and educate students and prospective employers about legitimate, quality Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The social media promotion supports ASQA’s ongoing, heightened regulatory focus on RPL as we continue to monitor provider compliance, targeting inadequate assessment practices, false or misleading marketing of RPL, gap training unavailability and the issuance of fraudulent qualifications. We have and will continue to take action against providers with non-compliant assessment or RPL practices, including removing providers from the sector who are found to have fraudulently issued qualifications and taking regulatory action that may result in cancelling the qualifications issued. 

ASQA has previously provided information to students on unethical and misleading Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) practices of non-genuine providers, brokers and agents attempting to lure them into enrolling through the promise of fast-tracked qualifications, often without the need for any training or assessment.
