ASQA Process Review

15 January 2014

On 7 June 2013, the COAG Standing Council on Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment (SCOTESE) commissioned a review of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

The purpose of the review is to consider ASQA’s current regulatory approach and the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations, and how this can be optimised over time.

A Reference Committee is overseeing the review and reporting to the National Senior Officials Committee on behalf of SCOTESE on the findings of the review. The Reference Committee members include representatives from Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Commonwealth.

The review commenced on 18 November 2013 and is being undertaken by an independent consulting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

PricewaterhouseCoopers is taking a consultative approach to the review and is seeking the views of registered training organisations (RTOs) and peak bodies. A survey that asks questions about the efficiency and effectiveness of ASQA’s contact and interactions with RTOs is being sent to a random selection of RTOs in late January 2014.

The Department of Industry VET Quality and Regulation Branch provides secretariat support to the Reference Committee.
