When recruiting a new employee to join our agency, we generally advertise vacant positions on:

Our selection panel will then invite shortlisted applicants to attend an interview. Candidates who are successful at interview will undergo reference checks before a preferred candidate is decided.

In some cases, the panel will create a ‘merit pool’ of suitable candidates who were not able to be offered an immediate position, but who were found suitable for the role and classification in which they applied for. Being on a merit pool means candidates may be offered a role for a similar vacancy by other teams within ASQA, and by other APS agencies.

What to expect at an ASQA job interview

  • Your interview will typically be with a panel of three people
  • The panel will generally include the person who will be the successful candidate's manager
  • Interviews are usually conducted via Microsoft Teams
  • You will be able to request any reasonable adjustments (such as access to interpreters or other specific requirements), if required
  • Depending on the type of role, the panel may ask you to provide examples of past work or to do a practical skills test.

Interviews may vary according to the requirements of a particular role, and the needs of individual candidates.

Reasonable adjustments

We are committed to ensuring an inclusive and accessible recruitment process. Candidates with disability may request reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process to remove barriers and support equitable participation.

Adjustments may include, but are not limited to:

  • Accessible recruitment materials and alternative formats (e.g. large print, audio, or screen-reader compatible documents);
  • Clear written and visual information about the interview process;
  • Interviews conducted via phone or video;
  • Additional time to complete tasks or assessments;
  • Support persons or interpreters.

To find out more or to request a reasonable adjustment, please contact the Recruitment team at recruitment@asqa.gov.au
