ASQA has implemented a range of integrity measures to address non-genuine and bad faith providers. Protecting the integrity of VET qualifications remains a core regulatory priority. There is no place in the sector for providers that fail to meet required standards or that issue qualifications that do not reflect genuine competency.

ASQA has cancelled the registration of critically non-compliant providers where serious breaches have been identified. These include cases where qualifications were issued without adequate assessment, where students had not met required outcomes, or where providers lacked appropriate systems, resources or qualified staff to deliver training.

In these circumstances, ASQA has also cancelled qualifications and/or statements of attainment that cannot be relied upon as valid evidence of competency. This regulatory action is deliberate and targeted. Qualifications issued under minor non-compliance have not been subject to cancellation.

Following strong engagement on the cancellation of qualifications through our recent workshop series, we are reinforcing provider obligations and expectations in relation to your student cohorts and your workforce in relation to qualifications that have been cancelled.

Impact on your RTO

You must actively assess the potential impact of qualification cancellations on your operations.

For students, any credit transfer granted on the basis of a cancelled qualification is no longer valid. Affected students will require retraining and reassessment unless they can provide robust evidence suitable for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

For your workforce, some cancellations have involved trainer and/or assessor qualifications, including TAE. You must ensure that:

  • staff do not continue delivering or assessing where required qualifications are not valid
  • new employees do not enter training and/or assessing roles on the basis of cancelled credentials.

You are expected to ensure trainers and/or assessors:

  • meet all credential and competency requirements
  • maintain appropriate industry and VET currency.

You should be aware that some TAE qualifications issued by former providers Contract Me Pty Ltd (trading as Learning Options, RTO 88174) and Qualify Now Pty Ltd (trading as NextGen Tech Institute, formerly Australian Learning Academy, RTO 3202), have been subject to regulatory action. This advice reflects regulatory action current at the date of this letter.

Where a trainer and/or assessor has had a qualification cancelled you must:

  • assess whether any training and assessment previously delivered is affected
  • take action where required, including review, validation and reassessment of students
  • consider whether this affects your organisation’s ability to comply with your obligations under the Act and requires notification to ASQA as a material change.

A cancelled qualification does not, in itself, indicate individual misconduct. However, it does not reduce your obligation to take appropriate corrective action. This includes regularly reviewing the ASQA website to ensure you are aware of affected providers, cancelled qualifications and current regulatory action.

Maintaining compliance

You are expected to have systems in place to:

  • verify the validity of qualifications held by current and prospective staff
  • ensure credit transfer and RPL decisions are based on reliable evidence
  • deliver training and assessment that meets the 2025 Standards and training package requirements
  • document and retain evidence of all compliance decisions.

Failure to do so may lead to regulatory action.

Further information

ASQA will continue to publish updates and guidance, including a list of providers whose students have had qualifications cancelled on the Qualification Integrity Regulatory Action page. You are expected to regularly review the ASQA website and remain up to date with this information. Failure to stay informed may result you relying on invalid qualifications or making decisions based on outdated information.

Further guidance is available in the April 2026 edition of ASQA IQ.
