Fees for renewing RTO registration

As a cost-recovery agency, ASQA applies fees and charges to certain regulatory activities to recover the cost of performing those activities.

When applying to renew your registration as a registered training organisation (RTO), you must pay all application fees upfront. All application fees must be paid at least 90 days before your registration is due to expire, or your registration may not be renewed.

The major fees associated with renewing your RTO registration are the:

  • application lodgement fee
  • application assessment fee, and
  • data entry fee (for those applications not submitted in asqanet).

When you reach the final stage of preparing your application in asqanet, asqanet will generate an invoice for both the application lodgement fee and the application assessment fee.

Application lodgement fee

  • This fee covers the costs of ASQA’s initial review of your application’s completeness.
  • The application lodgement fee is $900 per application.
  • asqanet will generate an invoice for both this fee and the application assessment fee.
  • You can pay this invoice by:
    • electronic funds transfer (EFT)
    • BPAY® (for invoices of less than $10,000)
    • Visa or MasterCard, or
    • cheque.
  • ASQA will not begin to process your application until this invoice is paid in full.
  • If you withdraw your application, the application lodgement fee may be refunded, only if ASQA has not started the completeness check.

Application assessment fee

This fee covers the costs of ASQA’s assessment of your organisation’s compliance with the vocational education and training (VET) Quality Framework and the conditions of registration prescribed in the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011.

In most cases this assessment will include an audit at one or more of your nominated venues.

  • The base application assessment fee is $7000
  • This base fee includes registration for up to four qualifications (including accredited courses), up to 20 individual units of competency, and up to two delivery sites.
  • In addition to the base fee:
    • each additional qualification (or accredited course) is charged at $145
    • each additional unit of competency is charged at $50
    • each additional Australian delivery site is charged at $700
  • The application assessment fee is calculated according to the items on your scope of registration on the date you submit your application. Once an application is submitted, ASQA will not adjust the assessment fee if you decide to make changes to your scope of registration.
  • Each qualification, accredited course and unit of competency with a status of either 'active' or 'in transition' in asqanet counts toward the calculation of your assessment fee
  • You will be provided with an invoice for both this fee and the application lodgement fee when you prepare to finalise your application in asqanet.
  • You can pay this invoice by:
    • electronic funds transfer (EFT)
    • BPAY® (for invoices of less than $10,000)
    • Visa or MasterCard, or
    • cheque.
  • The total application fee (that is, the combined total of the application lodgement fee and application assessment fee) is capped at $50,000

ASQA will not start assessing your application until you have paid the total application fee in full. Any delay in paying this invoice will increase the processing time for your application.

If you do not pay the fee at least 90 days before your registration’s expiry date, your registration may expire.

If you withdraw your application, the application assessment fee may be refunded only if ASQA has not started the risk assessment.

ASQA annual fees

ASQA annual fees apply as soon as you start an ‘ASQA-approved registration period’. This includes any extension to your registration approved by ASQA.

Providers of courses to overseas students

The above fees relate to registration as an RTO only.

Application fees and annual fees for providers registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) to offer courses to overseas students are in addition to fees for RTO registration
