Welcome to the last ASQA Update for 2017. This has been my first year as Chief Commissioner of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and it has been a year of extensive change.
ASQA has implemented a new, student-centred approach to audit this year, and the roll out of this approach has led to overwhelming positive feedback from providers as well as from many others in the VET sector. As part of the new approach, we have recently updated the Users’ guide to the Standards for RTOs 2015, which you can now download from our website. This year ASQA has continued to significantly increase the amount of audit activity undertaken, and implemented new resource planning and cost models. We have also welcomed Dr Irene Ioannakis as ASQA’s new Commissioner, Regulatory Operations.
Next year we will be increasing our focus on collaboration with other agencies to implement strategic projects addressing quality in the VET sector, and we will also be taking a close look at emerging issues in the international education space. For more information on what is coming up in 2018, I recommend you refer to ASQA’s Regulatory strategy 2017-18.
On behalf of ASQA, I wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday period, and all the best for 2018.
