Annual CRICOS registration charge

ASQA annual registration charges apply to all Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) providers that ASQA regulates.

Annual registration charges for CRICOS are in addition to annual registration charges for registered training organisations (RTOs). Providers registered to deliver both CRICOS and vocational education and training (VET) courses are subject to both types of annual registration charge. ASQA invoices these annual charges separately.

ASQA’s annual registration charges are also in addition to annual registration charges issued by the Department of Education and Training (DET).

What is the annual CRICOS registration charge?

ASQA’s annual CRICOS registration charge recovers some of the costs of ASQA’s regulatory activities. These activities are necessary for the effective regulation of the VET sector. They include:

  • information services, including the ASQA Info line and the ASQA website
  • national data collection and analysis, which enables the development of training provider risk profiles
  • maintaining training provider records
  • processing applications that have no associated fee or charge.

How are ASQA annual CRICOS registration charges calculated?

The annual registration charge depends on the number of qualifications (including accredited courses) on your scope of registration:

  • on the first day of the first whole calendar month of your ASQA-regulated registration period, and
  • every 1 July thereafter.

ASQA's annual CRICOS registration charge has four tiers:

  • 0–2 qualifications—$950
  • 3–4 qualifications—$1,645
  • 5–50 qualifications—$4,375
  • 51 or more qualifications—$7,100.
Example

An organisation, already registered as a RTO, submits an application for initial CRICOS registration to ASQA. The organisation seeks approval to deliver three qualifications to overseas students.

ASQA approves the application on 15 March 2018, but gives the provider approval to deliver two qualifications only.

  • The provider is subject to ASQA annual CRICOS charges from 1 April 2018 (the first day of the first whole calendar month of the provider’s ASQA-regulated registration period).
  • The applicable annual CRICOS registration charge is $950 (for 0–2 qualifications).
  • ASQA invoices the provider for the period from 1 April 2018 to 30 June 2018. This invoice is for $238 (a pro-rata amount, covering a three-month portion of the annual CRICOS registration charge).
  • In July 2018, ASQA invoices the provider for the period from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019. This invoice is for $950.
  • In subsequent years, ASQA invoices the provider in July each year, for the coming 12-month period.

When do I pay the annual CRICOS registration charge?

You must pay the CRICOS annual registration charge within 30 days of ASQA issuing an invoice.

ASQA will invoice you for your annual CRICOS registration charge:

  • on or shortly after the first day of the calendar month in which you commence an ASQA-approved registration period, and
  • every 1 July thereafter.

Your first annual registration charge will be calculated on a pro rata basis.
