Student information

As a student in Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector, you should expect high-quality training in your area of interest, leading to a qualification that improves your prospects of gaining the job you want or provides a pathway to further study.

Complaints

As national regulator for the VET sector, ASQA can investigate certain types of complaints about registered training organisations (RTOs) when these expectations are not met.

If you are not satisfied with the quality of service or training being provided by an RTO, you can lodge a complaint with us and, if the RTO is within ASQA's jurisdiction, we will consider it. If the RTO is not within ASQA's jurisdiction, you will be directed to the relevant state regulator.

ASQA is authorised to deal with complaints about:

  • the information provided to you by an RTO about course(s)
  • the delivery and assessment of the training you have received
  • the qualifications you have or have not been issued.

Make a complaint.

Information for VET students

General information about VET in Australia

A general overview of Australia’s VET sector can be found at www.training.com.au.

Confirm the training provider is registered

Check that the provider is a registered training organisation (RTO) and that the course is accredited, then you’ll know they must comply with nationally recognised quality standards.

All RTOs, recognised qualifications and accredited courses can be found at www.training.gov.au.

You should also ask the provider to confirm the course you are considering leads to a qualification that is included in the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Ensure the qualification is nationally recognised

Check that the course or qualification is recognised by the industry you want to work in by contacting the relevant Industry Skills Council. Details are available at www.isc.org.au.

Additional advice for international students

If you are considering coming to Australia to study, or are already here, you can find a wide range of information about courses on the official government website for studying in Australia: www.studyinaustralia.gov.au.

Confirm that the provider you wish to study with is registered to provide training to overseas students. You can do this by searching the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) at www.cricos.deewr.gov.au.

To ensure you have a clear understanding of your student visa conditions, check the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website: www.immi.gov.au.

If you have gained a qualification in your home country and wish to know if it is recognised in Australia, information is provided on the Australian Education International (AEI) website: www.aei.gov.au. The AEI website also provides other useful information about international education policies and regulations.
